Republic is a thin design magazine that sometimes arrives inside Metropolis magazine. The full title is Republic of Fritz Hansen [www.fritzhansen.com]. In Issue 2/2006 the President and CEO, Jacob Holm makes the following statement: “I don’t think it’s meaningful in a globalised world to talk about a narrow design concept like “Danish design’. Fritz Hansen has…long been casting around the world in order to meet the challenges of the future. We have elected to embrace the many international possibilities rather than close the ranks around Danish gems. We have not done this to distance ourselves from our heritage, but to challenge and further develop our own designs, based on the same humanistic attitudes to design but viewed in a global perspective……..”
Morton Voss
Also in this issue is a very interesting article about Morten Voss a Danish designer. His approach to design and his life as a designer is different than most; he is said to be “blazing his own trail”. I haven’t located the full article on line but am happy to share my copy of the article.
